About Us

London Bangla Press Club is the only organisation, which represents the British Bangladeshi journalists. The aim of this organisation is to strengthen the relationship among all the journalists who are working in across UK and to engage their collective effort for the overall benefit of the Bengali community. London Bangla Press Club was established at 1993. At that time there were only three weekly newspapers for the Bengali speaking people. But the scenario has changed. There are currently more than half a dozen Bengali weekly, one English weekly newspaper, all published from London. There are also various periodicals regularly published from London and Birmingham. Now there are two 24 hours UK based Bengali TV channels, two Bangladeshi channels and few radio stations serving the Bangladeshi Community in UK. Correspondent of Bangladeshi newspapers and Bengali newspapers based in other countries are also working here. What was once hobby for many has become a profession now. We believe there are more than 200 journalists, performers and technicians working in the Bengali media. This number is increasing day by day. The potential and growth of this media sphere is also promising. The Bengali media working in UK has become the most powerful and effective voice of the Bangladeshi community. The secret of this power is the strong relationship among Bengali media, journalists and news gatherers. London Bangla Press Club is relentlessly working to further strengthen this relationship. Bangla Press Club is now working towards building a stronger relationship between the mainstream and British-Bangladeshi journalists in UK. London Bangla Press Club also closely working with various Government agencies, Foreign Office, Home Office, London Mayor office, Local authorities such as Tower Hamlets, Newham and Camden etc. London Bangla Press Club is regarded as the most effective and representative organisation of British Bangladeshi journalists in UK. Our aim is to have a 'London Bangla Press Club House' in East London, the heartland of Bangladeshi Community in UK. We would like to create an archive of history, heritage, culture and literature of Bangladesh, and the expatriate Bangladeshi community, their contribution for the welfare of the immigrant community, their success and aspirations and this will serve as a reference cell with a view to meet the following objectives: * To facilitate research work by people from Bangladeshi and non-Bangladeshi origin; * To take initiatives and arrange training courses/workshops with a view to improving professional skills and proper development of the potentials of British Bangladeshi journalists working in the national/local news media; * To encourage professional journalism, arrange annual awards for best reporting, or original piece of writing, or investigative reporting; * To initiate various fellowship programme for improving mutual relationship among those working in the Bengali news media; * To create a "Journalists' Welfare Fund" to help professional journalists in their special needs; * To take appropriate steps opposing any unfair act against any professional journalist (even though s/he may not be a member of the Club) while pursuing his/her professional duties, provided the Executive Committee of 'London Bangla Press Club' is informed appropriately; * To offer special award to honour individuals for their contribution towards the welfare of the Bangladeshi community, and development of Bangladeshi art, literature and culture, and special contribution or success in various other fields; * 'London Bangla Press Club' will, under all circumstances, be above political beliefs and discrimination relating to religion, colour or sex. * London Bangla Press Club may take various initiatives to observe national days of Bangladesh. * The club will encourage regular recreational activities and from time to time will arrange sporting activities competitions for its members.
